People have come together throughout the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state memorials until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still were held across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' representatives convened in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official involved in the discussions said that an evening round of negotiations began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the morning session finished without tangible results, due to disagreements over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have yet to achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Critical Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young Hagar - whose family member survived the attack on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "No location appears as home now and until every captive are released none of us will be secure."

"When we see everyone home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their solidarity for the families of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester Atalia Regev explained: "We need do every compromise needed for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that about the majority of the population want the hostilities to finish in exchange for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the music event, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and explosions could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and zone areas and in the eastern area of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk arrives, the fear comes with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"My family are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are lying together, clinging, notably my little child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the conflict will come back to us."

Medical Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city indicated another two fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the southern area, medics stated.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
