From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
