A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
